Practical Exam ULM
In Belgium, the practical ULM exam (and everything else ULM related) is defined by a "Koninklijk Besluit" (KB).
It can be found here, in dutch:
In summary, there is a theoretical and practical component. Theoretical are tests on the subjects of:
- Aerodynamics (forces on the aircraft, controls, ...)
- Aerology (Air, pressure, temperature, clouds, ...)
- Techniques of flying (take-off, controlling, landing)
Then the practical tests consist of:
- A navigation flight between two points, of at least 35 km (~ 19 nm)
- 10 take-offs and landings
- 3 landings on less than 20 meters of a target
- 1 landing on less than 30 meters of a target, with engine idle from 200 m height (~ 700 ft)
- 1 stall
All of this solo.
We haven't done a stall yet, so I'll have some work in August.
I talked to my assigned examiner, he said a navigation flight to the airfield he's based (EBAV) from ours (EBZH) should be sufficient.
We've flown there a few times, so I should be able to find it. But we haven't landed there yet. He advised to at least do that, because it's quite a short field. The grass runway is 250 meters long. Compared to the 600 meters at EBZH I'm used to, that's quite short.
Meanwhile I've also filed a request for my exam radiotelephony. To make sure I'm allowed to still use the radio if I pass my practical exam. I've studied the matter for the ELP exam, so I'll be reviewing that.
